Creative Writing Workshops
North Staffordshire Press & Academics runs inspiring creative writing workshops across Newcastle-under-Lyme, The Potteries, and Staffordshire. Whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced writer looking for fresh motivation, our sessions provide the tools, structure, and encouragement to bring your ideas to life.
Who Our Workshops Are For
- Beginners: people who have always wanted to write but aren’t sure how to start.
- Developing writers: those working on short stories, poetry, memoir, or a first novel.
- Experienced writers: published or unpublished authors looking to try new forms or refine their craft.
- Groups & organisations: schools, colleges, community groups, and libraries seeking engaging creative activities.
What We Cover
Each workshop is tailored, but topics often include:
- Generating ideas and overcoming writer’s block
- Building characters and settings
- Exploring poetry, memoir, and life writing
- Improving dialogue and narrative voice
- Editing, polishing, and preparing work for publication
Our Approach
We create a supportive, non-judgemental environment where everyone can feel confident to write and share. Sessions balance practical exercises with group discussion and feedback. We also highlight opportunities for further development, such as joining our writers’ coffee afternoons or exploring publishing services.
Flexible Delivery
Workshops can be delivered as one-off sessions, short courses, or ongoing programmes. We run sessions at community venues, schools, and cultural spaces across Staffordshire, as well as online for remote participants.
